This group practice a particular style of mindfulness called Sun's Jing-Guan which is developed by a Chinese professor whose name is Sun Zhihai. The core of this practice called Jing-Guan is to "feel your feelings". Sun's Jing-Guan consists of three parts: feel your heart, feel your brain, and observe the thoughts and images that arise in your brain. Through practicing Jing-Guan, one may better deal with their emotional issues, dissolve their addictions, and improve their problem-solving skills and their general mental health. Please reach out if you want to learn this skill.

Group members often act out unresolved conflicts from early life experiences or traumatic events, within the safe confines of the group setting, which provides an opportunity for group participants to deal with these hurts or traumas which, in turn, enhances their interpersonal experiences and greatly improves their over-all quality of life. I am a therapist who has a deep understanding of problems such as addiction, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and the like.
The ultimate goal in counselling is; to empower a person to reach their fullest potential in life. Counselling is especially important when a person is experiencing problems or difficulties which are affecting his or her quality of life. Lifestyle changes can cause tremendous fear and insecurity in people, especially for those who have unknowingly relied upon ineffective ways of coping with the everyday stresses of life. Turning to a competent and qualified therapist who can provide confidential support and advice about private worries or concerns at times of difficulty, can be most reassuring and helpful.

My philosophy is Existential, meaning that we are free and therefore responsible for our choices, We are the authors of our lives, and we design the pathways we follow. My basic premise is that we are not victims of circumstance because, to a large extent, we are what we choose to be. Life is a cycle of transitions and experiences, presenting opportunities and challenges. Often the most important life lessons comes from our suffering. My aim is to assist people to develop their meaning and purpose, by encouraging them to explore options, in order to achieve a more meaningful existence.

A men’s group is a very powerful tool to reduce shame in a man’s life and to help a man come out of hiding. It is a deeply powerful experience to share vulnerability with other men in a safe setting and to realize that you are not alone. When men learn how to become intimate with other men (in a non-sexual way) it generally creates positive impacts in all areas of their life. The group has a cost of $640 which is $80 for every weekly 2-hour session. It is covered by insurance if your insurance covers Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

I have worked extensively with people living with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, developmental trauma and other psychological disorders.
Living in a fast-paced society can often make us feel burned-out, chronically anxious, depressed and alienated from those we love the most. Too often, we are "working for the weekend", and when it comes we have precious little time to spend doing the things that bring us meaning and strengthen our most important relationships. I approach mental health issues as arising primarily from our needs being inadequately met by the community and world around us. So there's a disconnect between how we evolved and where we are now. I also do ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) in partnership with the Canadian Centre For Psychedelic Healing.

Addiction Support Groups

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
