Family Therapy Training

This monthly series of half-day training sessions offers an opportunity for rich, in-depth learning about the practice of systemic family therapy. Held in both Fall and Spring, they cover a range of vital topics: Keying on the use of the therapist's self, the role of family in one's life, and learning to work within the emotional system of the family as a whole. It also provides a small group oriented context in which to inquire about and integrate one's individual clinical practice with client families.

Summer Clinical Training Intensives
This week-long clinical intensive provides a hands-on, small training group approach to learning about systemic practice. It offers a wide range of ideas and practices together with a chance to demonstrate and dialogue about your work in your practice. Using scenarios from literature and film, we will explore the ramifications of work with the emotionality of the family system and how to effectively understand and intervene with a variety of family issues. Finally, the training will offer a way to examine one's own thinking about family and how it influences the course of everyday practice.

Small Group Clinical Consultations
These groups provide an opportunity for clinical consultation of one's practice with clients viewed from a systemic perspective. Looking at one's own clinical practice, we explore themes and issues that arise in the course of one's immediate practice. In the context of their own professional work, therapists have a chance to inquire about the areas where they are most challenged and excited about their own learning. Most importantly, they have a chance to work on some of the connections emerging in the context of their own personal and professional lives.
