Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based type of cognitive behavioural therapy that focuses on reducing the PTSD symptoms that may have developed after experiencing a variety of traumatic events such as, near death or witnessed death experiences, child abuse, combat, sexual assault and natural disasters. CPT is generally 12 - 18 sessions and helps patients learn how to challenge unhelpful beliefs that arise from our understanding of the traumatic experience. CPT supports individuals in creating a new understanding of their trauma, resulting in a different relationship with whats happened, reducing the symptoms of PTSD and the negative impact this has on their lives.
