Michelle L Buck Ph.D.

Michelle Buck, Ph.D., is Clinical Professor of Leadership at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She has previously served as the School’s first Director of Leadership Initiatives, designing and coordinating opportunities for personal leadership development to complement the School’s academic curriculum. She has also served as academic director of numerous Kellogg executive programs, and also teaches leadership in the School of Communication at Northwestern. She is a Public Voices Fellow of the OpEd Project.

For over 25 years, Professor Buck has been passionate in teaching Leadership and Negotiations as ways to inspire and empower others to unleash new possibilities for themselves, for others and for the communities in which they find themselves. Her teaching focuses on 1) the role of self-awareness in leadership effectiveness; 2) leadership narrative and storytelling; 3) creating inclusive cultures of courageous conversations; 4) the dynamics of leading and following; 5) negotiation and conflict transformation; and 6) using arts-based experiential learning, including Argentine tango and Afro-Caribbean percussion ensemble, to address areas of leadership and collaboration.

Professor Buck previously taught at Washington University in St. Louis and at McGill University in Montreal, where she won teaching awards at both schools. She has a PhD and MA in Social Psychology from Princeton University, and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan.

Professor Buck’s commitment in her work focuses on designing innovative, inspiring, and important learning experiences that transform lives by providing purpose, passion, and possibility. In addition to her professional activities, Michelle enjoys dance, music, photography, and travel, with strong interests in Latin America and Africa.
