I urge you to edit your choice of wording. Deafness does not suck the life out of a conversation. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing often display more passion and character through sign language than the hearing can express through voice.
Needless to say, poor word choice, I understand your point but that sentence made me cringe, and I can't be the only one who feels like this.
