Labels are needed to fit with symptoms of mental illness, sometimes broad, but it gives the therapist a reference as to what needs to be focused on.
I feel analogies like "just like diabetes" is harmful. It makes it seem like if there is the blood test and then the medication, all is well. No such thing with mental illness. I even have a problem with the term of "mental illness".
There is no precise way of treating my anxiety and depression. Medication doesn't always work. Good therapy does more than popping a pill. Trying to understand complexities of the mind is like holding sand.
