Thanks for your excellent question. Yes, it is certainly possible to do this on one's own, through the mechanisms you describe or through "individual" therapy. Of course, it all depends on a large number of factors in a person's life that are too numerous to list.

If one's whole family seems to come at the actualizer with consistent and vicious attacks that say, "You're wrong, change back," that is too powerful for most people to resist. It's a bit easier if there's some support from, say, one parent, even if it is a covert wink, wink, nod, nod.
