“ In the same study, the researchers reported the majority of the participants experienced high levels of distress when left without their smartphone for 24 hours.”
If I didn’t have my phone, I would be without a means to contact the outside world since I no longer have a landline. None of my kids have landlines either.
We all have laptops but hardly pull them out anymore since they’re cumbersome. One of my kids doesn’t even have a tv and watches Netflix on his phone.
A lot of people use their phones to read books on with a kindle app.
So yeah I think a lot people would have significant distress at not having a phone or access to the internet for a day. It’s like asking people a generation ago how much distress they’d feel if their phone went out and their tv wasn’t working and they had no access to books for a day.
