Your confusion
Empathy is voyeuristic, dangerous and self-indulgent??? Just because empathy is needed to before acting (compassion) does not mean it is these things. Without empathy, no one would behave with compassion.
It is not always in the best interest of the other person for us to act on our empathy. Sometimes our actions do more harm. So compassion can be dangerous and selfish also.
This is probably one of the worst posts by Psychology Today I've ever read.
