As a trauma therapist, I have also worked with several clients who were abused by clergy & in religious settings & I totally agree with your comments. On a personal level, my son was bullied by peers, but in the presence of a teacher at an evangelical Christian school. He was not protected by the teacher & I have seen reactions similar to what I observed in many clients.

The Baltimore Presbytery of the Presbyterian USA handles reports of sexual abuse or harassment of children & adults in a more functional way. Individual churches are discouraged from handling complaints & instead are to report any complaints to the Presbytery Sexual response team. Congregants can report directly to the team. The team is made up of 2 ministers, 2 therapists, 2 lawyers & 2 additional members. Child abuse is automatically reported to DSS. I was on the team for several years & although not perfect, it is a significant improvement.
