Why are so many people drawn to conspiracy theories in times of crisis?

At some point living with a messy person becomes exhausting and if they won't change, eventually it can become destructive for the nearer person living with them. It's overwhelming and I can't take it anymore. It's not that I'm messy, he is messy and I can't keep cleaning up his messes, so our home is a mess because no amount of cleaning keeps him from making an overwhelming mess as soon as I clean. No amount of talking, not a bit of anger or tears from me changes his messy ways which have made me less then I want to be as I can't keep up and now feel lost just another part of his messy clutter.
