Excitement and Calm In Just the Right Mix
Wishing my readers a season of calm and excitement

In honor of the season, some simple joys.
1. The giraffe feeding was exciting because giraffes have eighteen inch black prehensile tongues covered with a slime that helps them eat thorns. The alpha giraffe used his tongue and his cranium to prevent us from feeding his herd mates and get all the carrots for himself. I resisted that slimy tongue and insisted on feeding the others.
2. The aliens were photographed in a Tokyo metro. They're bread, olive, and sausage.
3. The apes are the relationship story of the year. Our white-handed gibbon lost his wife of 20 years in early 2012. Gibbons are the only monogomous ape and we docents were broken-hearted to see him alone all year. A new partner just arrived and they took to each other immediately!
