Based on a recent study, couples who want to have a baby should dump the ovulation predictor kits, special diets, and rubbing the belly of fertility dolls. What they should be doing is spending their time having the most wild sex of their life!
As a Fertility and Sexuality Coach and Educator, I believe that the more we enjoy sex and go deeper into pleasure, the more we are able to breathe and open our bodies to the possibility of conception. Breathing, open bodies are able to pump more blood to all of our important reproductive organs. All of that valuable blood creates fertile ground for that unique dance of egg and sperm.
"Couples who are trying to have a baby often mention that the sex becomes a bit of a chore, a bit mechanical and routine. That's the wrong thing to be doing," said Dr Allan Pacey, a senior lecturer in andrology at Sheffield University.
"The sex should be as wild and thrilling as it was when they first met, when they weren't thinking about babies, to give them the maximum possible chance of having a baby," added Pacey, secretary of the British Fertility Society.
It's seems that men produce up to 50% more sperm when men are having a really good time in bed! Not only that - but the sperm are apparently happier and friskier! Happy and frisky sperm have a better chance of fertilizing an egg.
"The better the sex, the better the chances of conception," Dr Joanna Ellington, an American expert in reproductive physiology, says in a new documentatry called The Great Sperm Race.
"One of the things that men don't realise is that the more excited they are, the further back in the testicle they are going to draw on reserves [of sperm]. So if you have what I call 'gourmet sex', where you really spend time and you make it fun for both partners, that is going to make the man more stimulated and he is going to ejaculate more and healthier sperm."
But it's not just about the guys! Remember what I said about blood flow? For women, - it's just as important to have fabulous orgasms in "Baby Making Sex".
"When a woman experiences an orgasm, we think the intensity of the muscular contractions she has during the big pressure changes going on in her body helps to pull or suck up the sperm into her cervix and from there into the uterus," explained Pacey.
But let's be realistic here - women who are trying to conceive often end up being filled with stress and anxiety. These trying to conceive women may simply not be in a lingerie state of mind! For them - another night of baby making sex is any but hot and wild.
I speak to so many women in my fertility coaching practice - who are looking at all of the various ways to increase their fertility. Everyone it seems is trying Fertility Yoga,Guided Meditations, Fertility Diets, Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine and so much more to boost their fertility holistically and medically.
When you are trying to make a baby and yearning for pregnancy - everyone wants to find the fertility needle in the haystack. What if, the answer is for women to learn how to unleash their inner sex Goddess and for men to explore their passion with their women?
What if better conception rates hinges on our ability to be connected to all of our parts? I am not talking here about women with tubal diseases etc - but couples who have unexplained infertility or simply taking a little bit too long to conceive,
Sex and fertility is a little like peanut butter and jelly - they go so well together! So make yourself a sandwich, and don't be stingy with the ingredients!
