Interview with Robert Salvit

In my personal life I am an avowed atheist and in my professional life one of the hats I wear is that of atheist activist. But the question this series addresses is not what is the nature of reality or the truth about the universe but rather what actually helps a person in emotional or mental distress ameliorate that distress. For some people that answer may well be “spiritual” in nature. Here is Robert Salvit on the relationship between Kabbalah and emotional and mental health. 

EM: Your work as a helper flows from your study of Kabbalah. What is Kabbalah and why in your estimation does it promote emotional and mental health? 

RS: Kabbalah is an ancient and esoteric study that provides spiritual and practical wisdom. The major text of Kabbalah is called the Zohar, which is considered a part of the Old Testament. The word Kabbalah is translated from Hebrew to signify the concept of receiving. We all have a desire to receive, be it happiness, love, success, money etc. Kabbalah teaches us that in order to become a more spiritual being we need to transform this desire to receive for ourselves alone to that of a desire to share.

I use the teachings of Kabbalah in my daily life and in my practice to help myself and others understand who we are, how we got here and where we want to go. Our mental, emotional and physical health is directly connected to our life experiences and how they imprint us. Through the study of Kabbalah and its principles we are able to go from reactive beings to proactive beings and take control of our lives.

EM: What in your view is “spiritual healing”?

RS: Spiritual healing has to do with allowing one’s soul to express itself in physical form. We are called spirit beings because when soul and body come together a spirit is created.  Each spirit being comes into this world with its own karma, tikune, challenges that need to be overcome. These challenges that we face are connected to events in our lives that need to be healed. Nothing that happens to any person is by coincidence, we are given a movie script to follow so that we can meet these challenges. Within this script we do get opportunities to choose and make a difference as to how our spirit evolves and moves through life and corrects and fixes past actions. Spiritual healing is this process of correction, we all get another chance to make things right and heal our past and create a new future. We live in the reflection of our past and the future it created. We can change that in the Now. 

EM: You use many techniques as part of the work you do: Kabbalistic healing, Reiki Energy Healing, Polarity Therapy, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, and others. How do you choose which “tools” to pull out of your “tool kit” with a given person?

RS: The basis of my work comes from energetic healing. The many different modalities that I have studied and have in my toolbox address different aspects of the energies that need to be realigned. I choose the tools depending on the mental, emotional and physical manifestations of the client at that present moment.

I select a modality depending on what needs to happen in a healing session to bring about alignment. This could mean stress release, releasing a blockage, becoming more focused, becoming aware of a wrong thought or an imprinting experience. The causes that bring illness, disease, pain and suffering in our life all stem from some form of pain, be it mental, physical, spiritual or emotional, and depending on the root cause I choose a modality that would best help shift the client to a new alternate reality and relieve the pain.

EM: You use “health” as an organizational acronym. What do those letters stand for?

RS: Achieving health, wellness and removing pain and suffering is a major concern for every person. We all worry about our health, the longer we stay healthy the longer we stay alive. This desire for living is basic and innate in everybody’s system from a physical and spiritual perspective. Health is not achieved through a single process: it is multidimensional. As we know there are four basic levels of existence, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual, where each system strives to achieve health. I found through my experience working with people and clearing these levels of existence that there were six key factors that need to be achieved in order to have health. These six key factors are: Happiness, enlightenment, awareness, love, trust and harmony.

EM: If you had a loved one in emotional or mental distress, what would you suggest that he or she do or try?

RS: The first thing that I would tell somebody is to take a deep breath, and then a few more deep breaths. I would then advise them to do conscious breathing, this is a technique where you inhale the breath of life, that which you want, and then exhale and let go of that which is not of service to you. If need be I would go to the next level of expression where the person will make a sound together with the exhale. This is recommended for people who are sitting in anger or deep emotional pain. The making of a sound facilitates the movement of withheld energy.

If the person is still in distress I would ask them to get up and do physical movement such as jumping on the spot or walking to facilitate the shift in energy and the release of stress. Once they have settled down I would ask what the problem is, listen and support the process without judgment. This is called holding, once a person feels held and safe, emotional and mental distress will start to dissipate. If all of this is not enough I would schedule them for a session.

Re Robert Salvit: I started on my healing journey when I left traditional work after the death of my father, which changed my life. I focused all of my attention to my process of self-healing and my spiritual work through the study of Kabbalah. Kabbalah opened the door to energy and healing, as I continued looking inside I felt the need to do something with my hands that would bring health and wellness to the world. I started to study energetic healing in 1987, when I took my first Healing class and laid hands on my first patient, a dear friend. The experience of being with someone with an open heart and the healing energy was ecstatic to me. This experience motivated me to continue with my healing and spiritual studies as well as my healing practice.
