As a naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist, I recently authored the book Healing Depression: Integrating Naturopathic and Conventional Therapies. It is my sincere hope that this book, and any discussion from this blog will further the understanding and treatment of depressive illness. The tenet of the book is that there is no one factor causing depression, and there is no one single cure. However, when a practitioner can spend time and look at each person, and learn the underlying factors for that person, I do believe a comprehensive strategy can be designed to help that person balance, and heal. Oftentimes, natural remedies can play a strong role in helping the process, and sometimes conventional pharmaceuticals are needed as well.
