Is Terrorism Changing Your Life?

Terrorist gain entry into your mind only through active cooperation.

I am flying tomorrow with my family. I can't stop living and traveling. But, given all the recent terror issues, I feel security cannot truly stop an individual intent on harm. Am I being anxious for no reason? Do you truly feel that our security measures are 100%?

When I lived into Manhattan, I asked a locksmith to replace my old lock with a newly designed pickproof model. He advised against that. What I needed, he said, was a second lock. Thieves pass up apartments with two lock for apartments with one.

Terrorists also hit easier targets. To be feared, terrorists need to appear invincible. Since failure is a serious setback, terrorists hit "soft targets" where success is all but guaranteed.

In Paris, their "soft target" was people assembled in unprotected areas. In Egypt, the "soft target" was an airliner at an airport where security was lax.

Terrorists have limited resources. They can PHYSICALLY attack a minuscule percentage of the world’s population. By doing so, they hope to attack most of the world’s population PSYCHOLOGICALLY.

Physical attack is unlikely. But psychological attack can easily take place if you allow it. Just as security measures can deny terrorists physical access, you can deny terrorists psychological access.

Psychological attack takes place only if you cooperate. It requires your active imagination of being physically attacked. Doing so releases stress hormones which tend to keep the imagination going. If imagination gets out of control, you believe you are in danger.

Break away from this vicious cycle. Use the 5-4-3-2-1 exercise. In two minutes, the stress hormones feeding your imagination will burn off. This offers you a window of opportunity to use your mind productively.
