Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur after a threatening or traumatic event. It usually occurs because the memory is so frightening or uncomfortable that the brain doesn't process it completely and it remains fresh as though it is happening again. In these cases it can come back to re-traumatize you on any day or sometimes every day unless you avoid reminders. Join others who have been experiencing something similar to learn about what is happening in your brain and what you can do to move towards processing the memory which will bring healing and recovery.

I am a counsellor, sexologist and clinical supervisor with experience working with clients who have been in the same place you are. Just like a plant, you need water, sun and a safe place to grow. I provide the space for you to focus on your stuckness and to safely sit in the uncomfortableness. Trauma, guilt, anxiety and anger can hold you back from living. Maybe your relationship needs a jump start. Intimacy may no longer exist. Life can be hard sometimes but you don't have to do it on your own. I am here to walk with you along your journey. There is a way forward, a way to feed your soul and a way to let the light in.

The name of my business, Thinking Outside The Box (TOTB) says everything about my beliefs and my business. When we Think Outside The Box, our worlds become bigger. Mental ill health or mental distress causes us to focus inwards and our lives become smaller. We stop doing things because the work that goes into managing a distressing situation is exhausting. You are reading this right now because you know or feel that something is not quite right in your life. This may be something you have felt for as long as you can remember or a recent event. Doesn't matter, your here now so lets see how we can help.

Horses offer a non-judgment relationship, congruence, and transparency, something often many of us have been lacking in our lives. They can teach us how to be brave, how to manage big emotions and most importantly, because they are such magnificent creatures they sit with us while we deal with our stuff. EAP has been found to be an effective treatment for children, adolescents, and adults including: • Complicated Grief • Depression and anxiety • Difficult behaviours • Children and adolescents ‘at risk’ with maladaptive behaviours • Disruptive behaviours • Adolescents with depression, anxiety and low esteem •

After completing the Complex Trauma/cPTSD Basics to Recovery, or a similar program, you might want to attend the advanced program for further monitoring and support to make your road to recovery even shorter and smoother. As you will have made some necessary changes for your health and well-being to emerge, your world will start to be different, especially because your relationships with people will improve or fall away if they were too unhealthy to fix. You will learn what to look out for, how to navigate these changes in future and you will be supported on the way.

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. DBT was originally intended to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), but it has been adapted to treat other mental health conditions. It can help people who have difficulty with emotional regulation or are exhibiting self-destructive behaviours. 10 week modules open to anyone receiving individual therapy at Start Psychology and aged 18 or older.
