About
Hello! I’m Srividya Yeleswarapu, and I go by Vidya. I have a South Asian background, but I provide counselling for people from culturally diverse backgrounds. Some of the issues I’ve encountered most as a counsellor are understanding the role of guilt in depression, managing anxiety and unhelpful thoughts, healing from burn out, improving communication in relationships, and adjusting to life changes. I find that therapy can be daunting sometimes, especially when you are meeting your counsellor online. My goal, therefore, is to create a virtual space that is informal, where you can feel safe, comfortable and un-judged.
A major part of my role is also to collaborate with clients to brainstorm why they might be feeling, thinking or behaving a certain way. This is always the first step before addressing an issue. Discovering my clients’ values along the way is a part of the counselling process that I genuinely enjoy.
When building a trusting and empathetic therapeutic alliance, I remain transparent and curious. Acceptance, mindfulness and highlighting personal values are common themes in my approach. I also seek continuous growth in my career by pursuing professional development training.
