In our sessions, we can work to address embodied trauma and develop coping skills for emotional regulation, particularly for hormonal transition journeys, including for women's issues in the pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum and menopausal period.
Hello, I offer holistic and inclusive care for individuals and couples who are dealing with life transitions or relational issues, particularly those involving identity changes, and loss or grief. With professional and lived experience among cultural, gender and neurodiverse communities, I understand that adjusting to these events and stages of life can be complicated, and distressing without the right kind of emotional support. It can also lead us to question our sense of who we are, and how we can move forward with our lives. Together we can start to explore whatever is happening for you in a safe space and trauma-informed way.

We can focus on a specific problem area you bring to therapy, and delve to a deeper level of understanding of the issue/s so as to resolve it, or we can work in a more fluid, open-ended manner, with self-discovery in mind. While I am not resistant to diagnosis and working within a pathological lens, I like to see people outside of narrow diagnostic labels. In the first instance, my first approach is to understand a client’s suffering by learning about them as unique individuals with complex histories and adaptive coping strategies. As I engage wholeheartedly with clients, my ask is that clients attempt to engage wholeheartedly too.

You know how some men and women who are people-pleasers struggle with being too busy and always putting others first so they push down their own feelings, needs, and wants, which means they never feel truly seen, heard, known, and loved? Well, what I do is provide a safe space to deepen exploration of themselves by offering humanistic-experiential therapy sessions. This allows my clients to understand themselves better, honour their emotions, needs, and wants, and improve their relationships with others.

I wholeheartedly believe in therapeutic healing through safety, compassion & acceptance in the present moment. If we are in distress, feeling lost, alone, sad, anxious or angry it can be hard to know whom to talk with or, what to talk about. Sometimes we don't want to talk at all to start with and, would prefer to do a creative/movement exercise to express ourselves. Maybe we know exactly what we want to talk about and explore, maybe learning new skills to integrate into daily life. I can be there to support you, whatever stage you are at.

Life throws all sorts of curveballs. It's a necessary skill to be able to dodge or deal with them before things fall to pieces and these skills can be learned! And if it's too late for that, I can help you to pick up the pieces and put them back together in a way that creates a stronger and more connected you.

Hi! I'm an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with 2 decades experience working with a variety of clients. I work with children, adolescents, families and also individuals and in particular women. I work in a holistic manner; not only do I recognise the mind body connection but also acknowledges the system in which the child or family functions, never looking at a behaviour or symptom in isolation. I support individuals to overcome challenges in their lives, from relationships to navigating life transitions.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
