Hi, I am a warm, informal and collaborative clinical psychologist. My approach looks at both present concerns and past experiences. These may or may not be connected but in either way, can leave us feeling stuck, low, anxious or helpless. Together we can look at what is bothering you, explore where it began and what you would like to change or do differently. If you aren't sure what's wrong, but feel that something just isn't quite right we can work on what may be underlying your feelings and beliefs about yourself and others. By making connections, change becomes possible.

Rre/Planning for Perinatal and Postnatal stages with parents, Supporting children and Parents with challenging areas.
You might have found your way here because things feel harder than you expected. You may be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected from your partner or child. Parenthood — whether you’re preparing for it, right in the middle of it, or trying to make sense of how it’s changed you — can bring joy, love, and also deep exhaustion, worry, or self-doubt. Maybe you’re adjusting after birth, feeling anxious or low, or noticing that life doesn’t feel like it once did. My clients often come to me because they’ve been holding so much inside — and they’re ready for a space where they can finally breathe, talk, and begin to feel supported again.

I offer adult psychotherapy, child and family therapy, and parenting support.
I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. The internal world is a complex place, and the challenges each of us face reflect that complexity. Psychotherapy can help people to understand themselves deeply – their feelings, dreams, needs, and struggles. My experience is that the more we understand ourselves, the better we become at making authentic and creative decisions in life and in relationships. Many of my patients have faced early life adversities and now work hard to generate self esteem or to navigate issues relating to identity, daily living, and intimate relationships.

People can experience things in different ways. You might relate to some of these issues such as anxiety, PTSD, OCD or panic attacks. You may also relate to issues associated with family conflict, things like family separation which may include feelings of guilt, grief & loss, sadness, and fear, just to name a few. I truly believe that there is no ‘one fits all’ when it comes to therapy. My approach and style is working within a person-centred framework and I strongly value the importance of having a trusting relationship between therapist and client.

Men are often taught not to reach out for help. You may have been made to believe that to seek help for yourself was to admit weakness or that it would make you a burden. Maybe you don't know where to start. But you've been thinking about getting professional support for some time now, that's why you are here. You know you need help, maybe because you're experiencing social anxiety or an overwhelming difficulty to get out of bed. You might no longer enjoy the things that used to make you happy, or you're having darker, more intrusive thoughts. It's starting to impact your relationships, your work & your physical health.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
