At times we all feel anxious, stuck, lost, alone or empty. Sometimes it is fleeting, sometimes it stays for a while and sometimes it seems it is never going to leave. No two people are the same and I am committed to a collaborative approach towards understanding you and find a pathway to best resolve your emotional difficulties. I draw on a range of psychological treatment approaches including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Eye Movement Densensitisation and Reprocessing, and Internal Family Systems. I recently have completed training in Deep Brain Reorienting to process lingering shock from trauma.

As a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, I specialise in depth therapy, helping people understand not only their symptoms but also the unconscious patterns that shape their emotions, relationships, and life choices. Many therapies focus on managing symptoms. Depth therapy goes further, exploring the deeper patterns that influence how we think, feel, and relate to others. I work with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, attachment difficulties, sleep problems, relationship challenges, and questions of meaning, purpose, and personal growth, often leading to greater self-awareness, freedom, and lasting change.

I enjoy working with adolescents (12+) and adults from a variety of backgrounds, and I have a particular interest in working with males across the lifespan to better understand their mental health concerns. These can include a recent stressor or be part of a longstanding pattern of unhelpful or painful responses.
Common challenges I work with include: work- and study-related stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, loneliness, substance issues, behavioural addictions (e.g. pornography, gaming, gambling), anger and irritability, and thoughts around suicide/self-harm.

I don't think there really is any such thing as an ideal client... my preference is someone who wants a combination of 'offloading' to a skilled listener and provision of psychological skills/strategies to help make their situation better.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
