I'm a Clinical Psychologist and Director at the Psychology Centre of Western Australia. I'm also a Lecturer at Curtin University, where I train new psychologists and research emotion regulation. In therapy, I enjoy working with people to help them achieve their goals and live more fulfilling lives. My work often focuses on helping people to better understand, process, and manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. This can be in terms of addressing mental health difficulties (e.g., depression , anxiety) or for personal development.

I have particular expertise in the treatment of anxiety, hot flushes, fear of cancer recurrence, low body-esteem, low self-esteem and depression .
Therapy can be beneficial when something has challenged our usual ways of coping or because of an awareness that something in our lives doesn't feel right. Triggers might include anxiety, anger or low mood, illness such as cancer or a heart condition, increased stress, relationship problems, bereavement, or a life transition. You might be looking for emotional support as well as a "road map" and some "navigational skills" to help find the best path for you.

Welcome! Each person I work with has their own specific needs and goals. Life has it's traumas for us all. Often, my clients are experiencing a lot of emotional pain when we first meet. I respect the courage it has taken for them to reach out for help. Feelings like unhappiness, depression and anxiety grow in isolation. Feeling depressed or anxious makes people ever more isolated and alone. Sharing your experiences and emotional hurt in a safe non-judgemental space is exactly the right way to break out of this cycle and get back to living a connected, full and happy life. I work with individuals, and couples.

I am well qualified in evidence-based effective treatments for anxiety, depression , trauma and other psycho-social and emotional issues.
The stories we tell about current events and memories of past episodes in our lives profoundly impact on us and our loved ones. Are you feeling distressed, anxious or traumatised by historical or recent experiences? I can help you alleviate, transcend or transform these symptoms, and reclaim psycho-social and emotional well-being. Good therapy relies upon us forming sufficient mutual trust and compassion to discuss and interpret personal matters. I look forward to hearing your story and helping you revise retellings of it that firm your resolve to follow your preferred path towards life with less distress, or completely free of it.

As a counsellor, I offer you a safe space of empathetic listening to unravel your thoughts and support you in overcoming challenges. I will work with you in learning coping skills, become aware of unhelpful patterns and improve your day-to-day experience. Enhancing your awareness will move you toward the changes needed to reconnect to yourself, get closer to the person you would like to be and live a more fulfilling life.

In time, this empowers you to self-regulate, potentially reducing your susceptibility to anxiety, panic and depression .
You may be feeling out of your depth in helping your teen to navigate their stress, overwhelm, or anxiety. Or you might be struggling with these things in your own life, and unsure how to go about feeling calm again and engaged in your life in ways that are fulfilling for you. Maybe you are finding that you are resorting to unhealthy methods of coping with the stressors in your own life and would like to find healthier ways of navigating life’s challenges and your relationships. If any of these scenarios describe you or you teen, you may benefit from a safe space to explore your challenges and find new ways of responding to them.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
