‘Poiesis’ - Deriving from Ancient Greek poiein ("to make"), signifies the act of creation, production, or "bringing forth" something into existence that did not previously exist. It represents a transformative process, often used in philosophy to describe the emergence of a 'thing', from the void into form (various sources).

Many people come to therapy while still functioning on the outside, but privately feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, burnt out, ashamed or unsure how much longer they can keep carrying things alone. My ideal clients are people who want more than a quick coping tip: they want to understand themselves, break long-standing patterns and make practical, lasting change. Therapy with me is collaborative, respectful and clear. We make sense of what is happening, identify what keeps it going, and build a way forward that is realistic for your life.

You might be someone who looks like they’re coping on the outside, while internally feeling exhausted by your thoughts, your relationship with your body, or the pressure you put on yourself. Perhaps you spend a lot of time thinking about food or your appearance, constantly comparing yourself to others and wondering whether you’re “doing enough” or “good enough." You may feel disconnected from who you are, or know that you don't want to keep feeling this way but aren't sure where to start.

Kylie is particularly known for her down-to-earth, non-judgmental style. She works with adults whose confidence and sense of self have been shaken by a life change or by discovering their mind works differently. She helps them feel solid again. Life change may include illness, burnout, relationship strain, career transition, relocation, or adjusting to a diagnosis. Some people seek support when anxiety or low mood begins affecting their functioning. Others are exploring neurodivergence, such as ADHD or autism, as part of understanding long-standing patterns. Kylie tends to think differently and can offer unique perspectives.

Counsellor, PACFA
South Perth, WA 6151
I have enabled people to connect with their meaning and purpose in life and find an acceptance of their own uniqueness, assisting people with struggles ranging from thoughts of suicide, anxiety, existential angst, complex trauma and relationship difficulties. I believe that the therapeutic space is a space where people can work through the things in life that hold them back from thriving rather than surviving. Childhood trauma and family dynamics/narratives that have defined us can be processed and redefined to offer us freedom to exist as we want to.

I work with adults living with the impact of childhood trauma, childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and complex trauma. You may tell yourself you should be over it, but your body still reacts. You freeze, shut down, lash out or disappear inside yourself. You stay tense, overthink everything, struggle with trust, relationships, sex or intimacy, or sometimes feel nothing at all. You may have spent years pushing it down, avoiding it and getting on with life, yet it still shows up in ways you can’t always explain. You don’t have to hold it all together. We can start with what is happening now.

My clients are people who have left — or are questioning — a high-control group, cult, or coercive relationship, and are trying to make sense of what happened. Many have never spoken to anyone who truly understands this experience. Some are in acute crisis. Others left years ago and are only now beginning to process it. Many don't yet have words for what they went through. Family members and supporters of people in high-control situations also come to me when they feel helpless and don't know what to do. What they all share is a need to be understood without having to explain themselves from scratch. That's what I offer.

I offer 90 IFS minute sessions and IFS intensives.
The women I work with are self-aware, deeply feeling, and stuck in patterns that insight alone hasn't shifted, showing up as anxiety, relational loops, a nagging feeling that something's off, even when nothing "should" be underneath an otherwise 'functional' life. They're ready to go deeper than coping. I work with you one-to-one in longer sessions that create more space for the work (90 minute sessions + intensive style). Together we find the relational roots of what's keeping you stuck.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or impacted by past experiences, you don’t have to work it out on your own. Many people come to counselling not because they’re broken, but because their nervous system has been under strain for a long time. I work primarily with adults & children who have experienced trauma, from single events or prolonged, stressful life circumstances. My role is to provide a calm, respectful, safe space where you can slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and begin to feel more regulated and in control. I use evidence-based therapies tailored to each person’s needs.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
