Perhaps you have identified anxiety, burnout, or ADHD symptoms as impacting your well-being and you need some perspective, compassion, and an original approach.
Active, empathetic listening within a nurturing environment is at the foundation of my practice, to ensure you feel truly heard and understood. Working together, I assist my clients to build useful coping skills and use evidence-based strategies (CBT, ACT, schema) in our sessions that are translatable to 'real life' changes outside the confines of therapy.

Many of my clients are adults who feel mentally overloaded, scattered, or stuck in cycles of stress and self-criticism. They may be living with, or suspect they have, ADHD and want to feel more in control of their time, emotions, and energy. Often, they’re caring, capable people who just can’t seem to keep up with life’s demands, and they want to understand themselves better, reduce the overwhelm, and find calmer, steadier ways of coping.

Some people come to me for therapy to deal with trauma, depression or anxiety, and others come because they feel like something is missing or they are seeking more meaning in their lives.
Painful events and transitions can make us feel like the ground has been pulled out from under us. Moving forwards can feel daunting. We can feel stuck, overwhelmed and fearful. It takes courage to reach out to find a supportive therapist who can help you recover (or uncover) your self-trust and confidence. I am committed to creating a collaborative space that honours your uniqueness. I will bring me – my presence, compassion, experience and perspective – and I invite you to bring you – wherever you are at. Together, we will meet your challenges, finding a way forward that reflects who you truly are and what you want from life.

My interest and passion for health care began in my early adolescence as a volunteer at a school for children with special needs. In the years that followed I worked with people on the spectrum with high behavioural needs and also in group homes for people with chronic and severe mental illness. I then trained as a Clinical Psychologist and continued to deepen my experience and passion in the 20+ years I have worked with NSW Health in a number of different of roles. I now work with people across a broad range of issues as listed.

Anxiety Therapists

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
