I am a Registered Psychologist, having obtained my Psychology qualifications at the University of Melbourne and Murdoch University. My clinical experience commenced as a Behavioural Therapist working with children on the autism spectrum; then branching into high-complexity adult presentations in forensics, community alcohol and drug setting, trauma and private practice. I feel a sense of honour to be part of a therapeutic space where a person can feel safe to reflect, explore challenges, and recharge.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, and simply acknowledging the need for help is a courageous first step. You may be experiencing sudden and unexpected changes in mood, a sense of being stuck, anxious, or disconnected and unsure of why you feel this way or overwhelmed by life circumstances. Perhaps you experience loneliness, struggle to sustain meaningful relationships, or feel burdened by constant self-criticism, unattainable expectations and the day to day demands of your life. Past experiences or traumas may continue to impact your present, leaving you overwhelmed, withdrawn, or uncertain about the future.

I have a passion for helping people find relief from fatigue, burnout, and insomnia - especially when these struggles are connected to past trauma such as sexual violence, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), or addiction. My counselling journey has taken me from working in a Rape Crisis Centre in South Africa to supporting people in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Australia. Over the past 25 years, I have also worked alongside many individuals living with chronic health conditions where trauma has played a role in their wellbeing.

Prior to becoming a psychologist, I spent over a decade working with people with substance use and complex sociodemographic challenges.
Looking for a safe, supportive space to move past what's keeping you stuck in life? We'll work collaboratively to break unhelpful patterns and rewrite limiting narratives. While we can't change the past, we can transform how it affects you today. Psychology sessions with me are holistic drawing from CBT, DBT, EMDR, and narrative therapy—grounded in trauma and attachment theory.

My focus is client centred, and over the years I have learned a great deal about human behaviour with particular regards to depression and trauma. I focus heavily on self compassion and the defences that can stop us from moving forward. Expect a down to earth, empathic and humanistic approach when you work with me.

Specialising in couples counselling, substance use, grief, and trauma I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
If you’ve found yourself here, chances are something important isn’t feeling right—maybe in your relationship, your sense of self, or both. Whether you’re in a new relationship or have been together for decades, it’s common to feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. And it’s not always easy to open up to friends, family, or even your partner. I offer a warm, collaborative space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported as we work together to create meaningful, lasting change—emotionally, mentally, and in the way you connect with others. Therapy isn’t about fixing you—it’s about supporting you.

Substance Use Counsellors

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
