I am a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist specialising in adolescents & adults. Formerly a high school teacher, I have a natural ability to quickly develop relationships with teenagers and specialise in complex issues often affecting adolescents and their families. These issues often recur in adult relationships affecting daily life. By processing and understanding the past, it opens up a way to be able to move forward & improve current relations. I am passionate about not just alleviating symptoms but helping you to understand and resolve patterns of behaviour. Working together, we determine goals and the direction of your therapy.

Navigating the seasons of life on your own can sometimes get tricky. As you do your best to make sense of it all that seems too much or out of control, having a listening ear as you work through it can be helpful. I believe the struggles with our inner world can get overwhelming at times, and it can be renegotiated to lead a meaningful life. A significant part of my work as a registered clinical psychologist is offering psychological exploration and support to patients in a mutual effort to understand themselves better and work through how they can relate more intimately to themselves and others.

My special area of interest is OCD, however, I have experience and enjoy supporting clients with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, unhelpful coping patterns (substance misuse), ADHD & Autistic traits, trauma, and adjustment to life transitions and major life changes (study, work, marriage, separation/divorce, parenthood, retirement, illness, grief).
Hi, I'm Peta, and I understand that seeking therapy can be a difficult and vulnerable experience. I strive to offer a safe, non-judgmental space for adult clients to explore and make sense of what is going on in their life and identify what may be contributing to the difficulties that has brought them to therapy. I work closely with clients to develop an individual plan that suits their needs, goals, and preferences, focussing on their strengths to develop and improve coping skills. I Draw on a range of evidence-based practises and regularly review progress to make sure my clients are getting the most effective treatment possible.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
