I help people in relationship distress of many kinds. I also help those beset by the fundamental conflicts of life, whether it comes in the form of self doubt, a sense of isolation or a sense of meaninglessness and a lack of direction. Sometimes the tragedies of life just mount up and it can seem overwhelming. It helps to have some very direct insight and guidance at these times. With couples I help establish respect, safety and trust and a sense of belief in the relationship so that we can work on areas of conflict.

I have enabled people to connect with their meaning and purpose in life and find an acceptance of their own uniqueness, assisting people with struggles ranging from thoughts of suicide, anxiety, existential angst, complex trauma and relationship difficulties. I believe that the therapeutic space is a space where people can work through the things in life that hold them back from thriving rather than surviving. Childhood trauma and family dynamics/narratives that have defined us can be processed and redefined to offer us freedom to exist as we want to.

I can help you find a way to better psychological health and a better relationship.
Most people come to me purely and simply because they heard of me and they are ready to get better, to get their relationships, and personal lives, back on track. They want a gentle, fast and effective process that will get into the guts of the problem. A breakthrough that will clear away the relationship conflict, disappointment and resentment. That will clear away the anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc and other symptoms of unresolved trauma currently blighting their lives. I am an internationally trained and experienced Emotionally Focussed Couple therapist, and trauma therapist and have been working in this area for many years.

I work with heterosexual, multiracial, same sex couples and individuals who are in a place of questioning or are seeking help with a specific situation or event. Couples may be wanting some "fine tuning" in specific areas of their relationship or they may be experiencing a crisis due to an infidelity or breakdown in communication and may be unsure if they can or even want to, stay together. Individuals may be ready to explore childhood issues, dealing with trauma or having an existential crisis. I teach Circle of Security an attachment based parent program for caregivers wanting to parent differently to their parents.

Our relationship will be an important part of the therapy - a safe place where, among other things, you can try trusting and saying no.
Hi, I'm Valda. I help people of all ages and walks of life navigate difficult times in their lives and create healthier, happier relationships. Especially when anger or fears are high and hope low. It's important to me that you feel heard, understood, respected, and valued. I’ll respect your differences and always remember it’s a privilege to be allowed into your personal, private world.

Relationship Issues Counsellors
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
