What sets me apart is my deep understanding of the emotional toll that relationship struggles, divorce, parenting stress, grief and loss, abandonment, emotional abuse, and feeling unseen or unheard can have on someone.
You might be feeling lost in the noise of life and everything feeling like chaos. Maybe you’re carrying loneliness, self-doubt, the heavy question, “Why do I feel this way?” or the quiet belief, “I’m no good to anyone.” Why not give counselling a try? It can offer a fresh perspective and someone who’s not biased or judgmental.

I have extensive experience and qualifications in working with all kinds of client issues and concerns, working with both Individuals and couples.
Hi! Thank you for viewing my profile. Searching for a counsellor can be an overwhelming process; knowing who to choose, where to start and concern about trust in whom you may be expressing things never shared with others and worry about vulnerability. I've been in practice for over 9 years. My journey to counselling began due to my own lived life experiences and wanting to support others who may have also felt alone, unheard, unsupported and confused. I offer a safe, respectful and non-clinical space to share and be supported working from various modalities such as CBT, SFT, ACT, Person-Centred, Narrative and Gestalt therapies.

Some of these needs may include issues with sexual difficulties, gender or sexual identity, intimacy, pleasure, mismatched libido, desire discrepancies, intimate pain and other relationship struggles just to name a few.
Working with a Gestalt framework, Alana focuses on a here and now embodied approach that cultivates the connection between the mind-body. By reconnecting with your body's responses to certain behavioural or environmental factors, together we can begin to understand and work with the root of the issue.

I have been working in this space for over 15 years, predominately with adults who struggle with knowing what type of relationship they want with self and/or others. Part of your journey is understanding what outcomes are most suited to you and your unique circumstance, be it change, growth and development, or to dissolve a relationship or to assist in making a key decision moving forward. The techniques used will assist in finding what is needed to feel more secure within self, or in a relationship and works to differentiate those individual needs, creating a more secure attachment. If this resonates with you, book in a time.

Whether you're navigating the aftermath of trauma, struggling in your relationship, or feeling trapped by intense emotions or inner criticism, therapy can offer a space to breathe, make sense of what’s happening, and begin to heal.
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, you’re not alone. Many clients I see are carrying invisible pain—trauma, relationship struggles, or harsh self-criticism that won’t let up. I offer therapy that’s steady, practical, and tailored to help you find clarity, strength, and emotional connection—with yourself and with others who matter most.

As a Sexologist and Registered Counsellor, I support individuals and couples facing challenges in sex, communication, dating, libido, FIFO relationships, neurodiversity (ADHD/autism), family stresses, sexual difficulties/pain, codependency, healing from betrayal, ENM/polyamory, and more.
As a Narrative Therapist and previous journalist I firmly believe that the stories we tell ourselves shape us. When we hold onto stories of fear, our limitations and insecurities it takes a toll on our relationships, especially the one we have with ourselves. I help people connect more to the stories they want to live by to have more meaningful relationships

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
