I work particularly with clients on the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues.
Doing life can be hard and sometimes overwhelms us. Loss of control and enjoyment of life can bring trauma and challenges. I believe everyone can regain hope and restoration to live a fulfilling life. My life experiences include secondary-school teaching; as a husband and dad in raising a now-adult family; pastoral care; Christian counselling; and alcohol and drug counselling.

People often find themselves in my counselling room after they’ve been struggling for a while and can walk in feeling overwhelmed, anxious, uncertain what to do and feeling like life has just become too hard.
I’m particularly interested in working with people who have experienced trauma or distressing events. The trauma may be a result of childhood trauma or more recent single event trauma such as car accidents or birth trauma. I'm also interested in helping people manage the overwhelming symptoms of anxiety.

I work with: anxiety and depression, difficulty adjusting to a life challenge or a life change, traumatic life events, difficult events in childhood, recovery from bullying, workplace issues, relationship problems, adjustment to diagnosis of ADHD and/or Autism, parents of children with disabilities and medical conditions.
I love being a psychologist. It’s a genuine pleasure and joy to work with people, to be invited to hear about their lives, their challenges and what they want for themselves. In working with people, I’m interested in tailoring therapy to each individual client. I recognise that every person has their unique way of being in the world and way of looking at the world, and so will have their own needs and wants in how therapy will work for them.

Our ideal clients are autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD young people, often described as "hard to engage," "shut down," or "burnt out." Many have tried traditional talk therapy and found it overwhelming, boring, or unsafe. They come to us because parents, support coordinators, or schools recognise that the usual format isn't working. We meet them inside the games they love (Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, Discord) using play and shared interest to build genuine trust. From there, we support regulation, identity, RSD, school distress, and burnout recovery in a way that respects how their brain actually works.

Many people seek therapy feeling anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhelpful patterns, struggling in relationships, or feeling that something just does not feel quite right.
My approach looks at both present concerns and past experiences. Together we can explore what is troubling you, where patterns may have begun, and what you would like to change. If you are unsure what is wrong, therapy can help make sense of what may be underlying your feelings and experiences, and support clarity and a way forward.

I work with adults navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, trauma, or challenges in relationships, boundaries, or self-worth.
Many of us were raised with the notion that experiencing psychological, emotional or relationship difficulties meant that we were somehow broken; or that seeking help is a sign of weakness. I don’t subscribe to this belief. Reaching out is brave, and I am yet to talk to a person that hasn’t had their share of personal challenges. You are not broken, you are human; and therapy is not about fixing, it’s about healing.

The ideal client is the one who is willing to bring their whole self into the therapeutic space. Firstly, they probably just want to feel better - and that is fair. Therapy usually starts right there in the very practical ground of alleviating distress. For some that is enough. Others, may want to continue the journey of personal growth to further explore patterns of behaviour and any obstacles that stand between them and their greatest potential.

Anxiety Therapists
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
