Childhood poverty, immigration stress, nursing and family life, as well as working in pastoral care, Street Chaplaincy and addiction counselling have shown me how acceptance, forgiveness and hope can bring deep healing and peace.
Welcome to 'The Bield Counselling Services'. Bield is an old Scottish word meaning safety, protection; to give confidence, encouragement, assurance. Are you looking for a safe and welcoming environment where you can speak freely about your personal challenges, process new insights and then make helpful changes? Are hope and affirmation, as well as strategies and unbiased perspective, important to you in your healing journey? Do you value ongoing support as you navigate personal crises, relationship challenges, life transitions? My life experiences and training can help me to offer you this support.

I find the majority of my clients are looking for someone to listen to them, they want to be heard. I am hearing more and more that "I feel invisible". They want to feel that they are important and that people care.

Following sessions begin to involve the child with the aim to understand their perspective on the behaviours and then finally focus on solving problems collaboratively as a family.
I am a registered psychologist dedicated to helping parents and caregivers enhance their relationships with their children by fostering collaborative problem-solving skills to address challenging behaviors at home. I utilise the evidence-based Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach, which involves working together with children to understand and solve the issues underlying challenging behaviors. Rather than viewing these behaviors as intentional, CPS sees them as signs of unmet needs or lagging skills. The CPS approach aims to foster connection, reduce conflict, and build problem solving skills.

so you can untangle old emotional patterns and reconnect with a calmer, more centred version of yourself. I’m a registered ACA counsellor and a Clinical Fellow in Counselling at Edith Cowan University. But more than titles, what matters is the quality of the relationship we build. I bring expertise, but also deep respect for your inner resilience and insight

If you identify as the black sheep of the family, feeling lost, isolated and rejected, I would be privileged to help you heal from internalised family patterns with courage and possibility!
Hi. I am an Australian counsellor and clinical supervisor. More specifically, I am a warm, understanding and engaging fellow human, deeply attuned to fostering courage, hope and possibility in times of adversity, grief, loss, and transition. While I help people from all walks of life, many of my clients feel 'different' or identify as lost, empty, highly sensitive or neurodiverse. They struggle to fit in and feel understood in our increasingly complex world. I am also deeply attuned to those seeking a solid identity and a meaningful life.

Family Therapy Counsellors

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
