C.G. Jung once said that there were as many therapies as there are clients. This is the truth I shape my therapeutic practice around. We are all individuals and I listen to you in your uniqueness and work with you on what you bring to therapy. We work together in our therapeutic conversations that intrinsically helps you. I work with clients experiencing grief and bereavement, post traumatic stress, sleep problems, smoking, anxiety, stress, creative blocks, chronic pain, fears, gender issues, etc. I have been in private practice since 2009 in both NSW and Fremantle, Western Australia.

Hey my name’s Chris, I’m a Clinical Psychologist working out of Fremantle. I work best with people who feel like things are off in life but can’t quite put their finger on what. People who feel grim even though they have a “good life” on paper. People that struggle with intense emotions which they tend to cover up with work or comfort seeking. People that feel like the past is somehow holding them back. A lot of the people I see aren’t sure why the feel the way they do, or how to feel better. Sometimes they know what to do but can’t quite put it all together. Sometimes they just want to talk and feel heard and understood.

Hello! My name is Emmelie. I am a provisionally registered psychologist working at Neira Psychology in Fremantle. I love working with clients across the lifespan, with a range of presenting concerns. Perhaps you are having difficulty managing big or challenging emotions like anxiety, anger, or sadness, or perhaps you are struggling in your relationships. Maybe things are tracking ok, but you’re looking to enhance and maintain your overall well-being. I'll work with you to make sense of where these difficulties may be coming from, offer helpful strategies and support, and, above all, I'll do so with warmth, compassion and patience.

I practice a unique blend of clinical and organisational psychology. My therapy sessions are conversational, personal, playful, and guiding. Therapy is about a client and a psychologist starting from an idea: That things could be better. Maybe by a lot, maybe just by a little; either way, something worth working for. Something that justifies facing challenges, shaking things up, taking some risks. As a therapist I don't pretend to know all the answers. My skill is to ask the right questions.

I specialise in working with women and LGBTQI+ folk who are wanting support with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and body image concerns. Many of my clients experience stigma and micro-aggressions on a daily basis. Some of the main reasons people choose to see me are because they struggle with feeling 'not good enough', or they have difficulty coping with overwhelming emotions, or they are struggling in a world that doesn't seem to accept them. Some of my clients feel disconnected from themselves and are wanting support to work out who they are. Most of my clients would like to feel safer.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
