People are most fulfilled when they have meaningful activity and connection to others both in immediate friends and the wider community. We’re happiest when we’re connected to others, connected to nature and have occupation/activity that means something to us. Every person is different and may take a different pathway towards self actualisation. I believe in meeting the client where they are and cooperatively choosing an approach to therapy. I am practical and client centred and believe good mental health starts with learning to regulate our emotions and nervous system.

Welcome. My name is Samantha, but most people call me Sami. I'm a social worker, certified clinical trauma professional and somatic therapist specialising in counselling for adults impacted by trauma, and for women wishing to reconnect with their bodies. I've dedicated the last few years to working with people with complex trauma, walking alongside them in their journey to return to wholeness. Hey, My name’s Chris. I’m a Clinical Psychologist and Fremantle local. Do you feel like things are off in life? Are you unhappy or unfulfilled with where you’re at? Do you struggle with high stress, a strong inner critic or strained relationships where your needs just don’t seem to be met. Maybe you're finding it tough to adjust to changes or feeling the weight of past experiences that just won't fade. If any of this sounds familiar, maybe I can help.

Navigating a world that can feel misaligned with your way of thinking can be exhausting. Whether you are managing the complexities of neurodivergence (Autism/ADHD) or the weight of anxiety, depression and trauma, the pressure to simply 'function' leaves little room for your true self. You may find yourself struggling with emotional dysregulation or questioning your identity while managing the demands of daily life. You deserve a space where your experiences aren't just diagnosed, a place where the goal isn't to be 'fixed,' but to develop a way of living that feels authentic, manageable, and grounded in your unique strengths.

I see both adults and adolescents who typically present with a range of emotional, behavioural, relational, or life-transition difficulties that are causing distress and reducing functioning. Their needs often centre on feeling heard, understood, and safe enough to explore their experiences without judgement. Common goals include reducing symptoms (such as anxiety, depression, or stress), improving coping skills, strengthening relationships, and gaining clarity about their values and direction.

I often use attachment-based and schema therapy in my practice.
I typically work with people who lead full and busy lives who often feel burnt out and exhausted, looking to find a way back to flourishing and wellbeing. I also work with people who are going through relationship challenges of all shapes and sizes, and people who wish to break free from old, limiting childhood patterns that keep showing up to hinder their full potential. My hope is that clients who work with me are reconnected to their deepest sense of who they are, to their strengths, gifts, and their capacity to love themselves and their lives. I work with individuals and couples.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
