EMDR Psychologists and Therapists in Perth, WA

Molly Priest
Psychologist, MPsych, PsyBA General
Perth, WA 6000
My work is grounded in trauma therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS/parts work) and EMDR, alongside somatic psychotherapy, ACT, DBT, Narrative and existential approaches.
You may have spent years being anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, perfectionistic, or trying to hold everything together. Perhaps you understand your patterns intellectually, but still find yourself caught in them. I work with people navigating trauma, attachment wounds, neurodivergence, identity, relationships, addiction and major life transitions. Together, we become curious about the parts of you that learned to survive—and what they need now. Using trauma-informed parts work and body-based approaches, we work towards greater freedom, connection and a life that feels more like your own.

Brent Munro
Psychologist, MPsych, PsyBA - Clin. Psych
Perth, WA 6000
I help with anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, grief, relationship difficulties and alcohol or substance concerns, drawing from CBT, ACT, Schema Therapy, DBT skills and EMDR.
Many people come to therapy while still functioning on the outside, but privately feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, burnt out, ashamed or unsure how much longer they can keep carrying things alone. My ideal clients are people who want more than a quick coping tip: they want to understand themselves, break long-standing patterns and make practical, lasting change. Therapy with me is collaborative, respectful and clear. We make sense of what is happening, identify what keeps it going, and build a way forward that is realistic for your life.

For trauma focused work, EMDR is the preferred approach.
Becoming a parent, or hoping to become one, can be both exciting and overwhelming, and sometimes an experience of loss and disappointment. Even when there are happy moments, it’s normal to also feel uncertain, stretched, or like some things are out of your control. Many parents/parents-to-be, feel pressure to look like they have it all together, while privately struggling with sleep disruption, anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, relationship changes, or a sense of losing themselves.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimising its ability to trigger anxiety.
