Are you feeling that talk therapies aren’t quite getting to the heart of the problem? Are you or your kids experiencing big emotions that appear out of nowhere and can’t quite be explained by words? Do your kids need help, but encouraging them to attend sessions has turned into a weekly carpark battle? Do you want a therapist who can work creatively with your family rather than answering questions like a textbook? Do you wish therapy could just simply feel easier?

I particularly love working with 15-25 year olds and anyone who still feels like a big kid..so let’s talk...0402437406. Want to clarify how you got to be who you are? Need help to accept your likeable and not so likeable self? Want to explore your identity and establish your independence? Relationships not going the way you would like?

My work is collaborative and tailored, drawing on attachment-based and evidence-based approaches, including the Gottman Method for couples.
I work with adults, couples, and adolescents who find themselves caught in familiar patterns in relationships, in their sense of self, or in the quiet feeling that something isn’t quite working. Whether you come alone or together, counselling offers a space to slow things down, reflect, and begin to understand what may be unfolding beneath the surface. Often, people arrive with a sense of repetition; the same tensions in relationships, the same doubts about self-worth, or a lingering question about where life is heading. My approach is thoughtful, evidence-based, and collaborative, shaped around the session as it unfolds.

I'm a fully certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner & social work counsellor (NB trans), with over 20 years' experience working in community services. My work is grounded in social justice and liberatory practices that support self-agency, joy, pleasure & empowerment. I have a deep interest in relational & social trauma and use a somatic approach that acknowledges the external forces of power and harm. Our bodies hold protective patterns (or felt senses) in response to early attachment wounds, traumatic experiences, relational disruptions and structural pressures - together we work to safely integrate and release these patterns.

My name is Seb & I'm an Integrative Psychotherapist working somatically with clients in Bendigo & Kyneton. For me, Psychotherapy is the science and art of creating transformative change by using the healing power of relationships that are grounded in safety and trust. The motivation for change might be prompted by a loss, a crisis or a need to fix specific problems, yet it often ends up with stepping into a deeper, more connected sense of self, responsibility, love & freedom. Thus, Psychotherapy is a place to accept and come to terms with how our experiences and stories have shaped us into who we are, and how we live and love.

I believe lived experience is an essential complement to professional training. It deepens empathy, reduces judgement, and allows clients to feel genuinely understood rather than analysed. My work focuses on helping clients develop insight and effective strategies for change during periods of stress, transition, or relational difficulty. In relationship counselling, I work with individuals and couples navigating conflict, separation, or the process of rebuilding trust. Where separation is inevitable, I support respectful communication, negotiation, in order to maintain long-term emotional stability.

I am informed by attachment-based modalities, sensorimotor and somatic approaches and polyvagal theory.
A relational and somatic focus is the heart of my work as a therapist. I offer trauma-informed, therapeutic counselling grounded in an integrated and holistic approach. I have a deep interest in how stress and trauma impact the nervous system, and how we hold these impacts in our physiology. I am very experienced in working with complex and developmental trauma, and trauma resulting from sexual assault & family violence. I work with issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief & loss, family dynamics, interpersonal issues, life transitions, or helping people to explore existential and spiritual concerns.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
