Are you feeling overwhelmed by complex trauma or navigating life as a neurodivergent adult? Many of my clients seek targeted support for emotional dysregulation, attachment struggles, or the weight of unmanaged trauma. They require a therapeutic space that is not only evidence-based but neuro-affirming, culturally responsive, and practical. They want clear steps and a clinician who explains the "why" behind every intervention. We help by prioritizing stabilization, moving at a pace that ensures psychological safety while building usable strategies for daily life.

I offer a practical, collaborative approach grounded in evidence-based therapies like Schema therapy, ACT, CBT and mindfulness.
I work with people who may look like they’re holding it together, but feel anxious, stuck, or overwhelmed underneath. Many are used to pushing through, yet something isn’t working anymore. I meet you where you’re at, seeing symptoms not just as problems to eliminate, but as meaningful signals to something more significant driving us. In a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space, we slow things down and explore what’s beneath the surface. Together, we build insight, emotional steadiness, and a way forward that feels more aligned with who you are.

I use Schema Therapy to address self-defeating patterns originating in early life experiences.
I work with people who are often carrying long standing emotional wounds — perhaps shaped by difficult early experiences, painful relationship patterns, or trauma that still lingers in the present. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from their true selves and relationships. They may be repeating patterns they don’t fully understand but long to change.

I integrate both Schema Therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), two complementary approaches that work together to build emotional stability, reduce the intensity of painful memories or beliefs, and support lasting change in how people feel about themselves.
My name is Charlotte, and I'm a Clinical Psychologist, Certified Schema Therapist and EMDR practitioner working in Ivanhoe, Melbourne and online. I enjoy helping people from all walks of life develop a better understanding of themselves and learn how to shift long-standing patterns. I work with people who have had major changes or disruptions in their life, difficulties with low mood or anxiety, complex relationships or family dynamics, and parenting challenges. I work from a neurodiversity-affirming perspective and particularly enjoy supporting people with ADHD, as well as parents navigating ADHD within their families.

I work with adolescents and young adults who are dealing with various challenges, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief and loss, trauma, relationship struggles, anger management, sleep hygiene, and suicide prevention. Learning to regulate emotions effectively becomes crucial in order to cope with stressors and setbacks. Together, we can explore the underlying causes of anxiety, depression, and other difficulties, working towards improved self-esteem, healthier coping mechanisms, and the development of resilience.

Schema Therapy
How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?
Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?
Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognising and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?
Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
