I work with young & mature adults to build confidence & improve self esteem, couples/individual family members to resolve conflict & stresses associated with changes to family roles, parenting, health & work.
Change whether positive or negative, planned or unexpected can generate stress and anxiety, but there is always a path forward so that you can emerge healthier, happier and more able to cope. With the right guidance and support you can learn to navigate destructive emotions like anger, shame, guilt, sadness and loneliness and learn how to re-evaluate your values and set achievable goals.

By offering strategies and unconditional support I hope to assist your recovery from anxiety, rumination and relationship issues.
Few sail through life without encountering obstacles of one sort or another. For the most part we adjust to challenges or emotional upset using our own internal healing systems. Occasionally though, we just can't find a way through the pain and can't understand what went wrong. At these times it is really helpful to talk with someone who is trained to notice the emotions behind your words, and it is by noticing these emotions solutions to your troubles can be found.

What he meant was that what goes wrong in an early relationship, must go right in the therapeutic relationship.
Suffering is a part of life. We all suffer at some point in our lives. This does not mean we are unwell, it may in fact mean you are healthy and the response you are having is rational, logical and even predictable given your experience. In others words you are reacting normally to an abnormal situation. Here at PsychologyCare, we do not medicalise your misery but rather we are here to understand you and help you. If you are in suffering then you are a client we see.

As a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist I can help you to make sense of your difficulties, learn how to manage internal conflicts and build a healthy relationship with yourself and with others.
From time-to-time we all have issues going on in our lives that feel overwhelming, confusing and too hard to deal with on our own. At the same time, for various reasons, it often feels as if there is no one there we feel safe enough with whom we can share our burdens. Whether it's a messy divorce, the death of a loved one, a traumatic experience, an existential crisis about the meaning of life, or a difficult decision that has to be made - it can be hard to figure out what to do or who to turn to for guidance.

The relationship between client and therapist is a key part of therapy success.
My interest is in working with people who have a history of being in unhealthy relationships and who wish to change this. Clients come to me because they notice a pattern of being attracted to individuals who exhibit behaviours such as abusiveness, control, manipulation and devaluation. This often leads to their sense of rejection and abandonment; and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness. Together, we work through factors such as how to regulate intense emotions, tolerate distress and curb impulsiveness. We also learn strategies such as assertiveness, individuation, as well as gaining awareness about the impact of factors such

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
