I enjoy working with a diverse range of people. My approach brings together mind, body, emotion, and spirit, utilising a range of approaches and interventions such as: Polyvagal theory; somatic psychotherapy; cognitive approaches, mindfulness, and EMDR. I meet clients where they are at, regardless of situation, age, goals or struggles. I believe that each individual is the expert in their own lives and has within them the capacity for growth and healing, but I know that sometimes it can be helpful to have someone walking alongside, supporting the development of the insights and changes that lead to improved wellbeing.

Hi, I’m Maneesha. I work with clients who have experienced significant trauma and are struggling with anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. Many feel overwhelmed, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or unsure how to manage intense emotions. Often, they want to better understand themselves, improve communication in their relationships, and develop healthier ways of coping. I support clients to process trauma, manage anxiety, build emotional regulation skills, and create more fulfilling and connected relationships. Together, we work toward greater self-understanding, resilience, and the confidence to navigate life’s challenges

Have you spent so long being there and holding everyone else together that you've forgotten what it feels like to be held? Maybe you're a mother running on empty, an immigrant caught between two worlds, someone who rebuilt their whole life and still feels lost inside it. You may be drowning in grief, surviving violence, or escaping through gambling. Whatever brought you here — you are not too much, and it is not too late.

This usually arises from repeated trauma from relationships (inc. emotional neglect, sexual abuse, dv...) whether it be from childhood, adolescence or in adult life.
We can focus on a specific problem area you bring to therapy, and delve to a deeper level of understanding of the issue/s so as to resolve it, or we can work in a more fluid, open-ended manner, with self-discovery in mind. While I am not resistant to diagnosis and working within a pathological lens, I like to see people outside of narrow diagnostic labels. In the first instance, my first approach is to understand a client’s suffering by learning about them as unique individuals with complex histories and adaptive coping strategies. As I engage wholeheartedly with clients, my ask is that clients attempt to engage wholeheartedly too.

I have worked as a psychologist in a variety of settings, including AOD rehab, refuges, women’s organisations (focused on family violence), NDIS realm, and private practice. I work with a broad range of presentations across the lifespan, including personality disorders, complex trauma, bipolar affective disorder, anxiety, depression, chronic illnesses, addictions, autism spectrum disorder, and schizophrenia. I mainly practice psychodynamic psychotherapy, so the way clients relate to themselves, others and the world is often central in the therapy room. Having said this, I also tailor my approach to suit an individual's needs.

I bring years of clinical experience as a Couple and Family Therapist, having worked across private practice, relationship counselling NGOs, early parenting centres, and child and adolescent mental health services.
I’m a Couples and Family Therapist and Mental Health Social Worker based in Melbourne’s Inner West, offering therapy for individuals, couples, and families who are ready to untangle the tricky parts of being human together. I'm all about helping people feel more connected- whether that's partners trying to find that spark again, parents navigating the beautiful chaos of raising little humans, or families figuring how to get through a dinner together without conflict erupting.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
