I help women who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or lost—often because they care for others and people-please at their own expense. If you are wishing the thinking would stop so you can sleep... if you're tired and overwhelmed, with endless demands, often feeling unseen, you are not alone. It’s okay to pause and let yourself take part in your own life, one step at a time. Here in this therapy space, we come together, light the lantern, and shake off what holds you back so you can take the next step that will take you closer to how you want to live. For me, therapy includes your body, inherited sorrows and strengths, and your connections.

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable individuals who have spent a long time holding things together for others. They may be navigating trauma, burnout, parenting challenges, or the quiet exhaustion of trying to live in environments that don’t quite fit. Some are exploring their neurodivergence for the first time, while others are parents or practitioners seeking a deeper understanding. I offer a reflective, collaborative space to make sense of these experiences and find ways of living that feel more aligned and sustainable.

Hi I'm Naomi, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Resource Therapist. I have an honest, kind, understanding, non judgemental approach, listening to what you need help with and here to support you with life's challenges. Feeling stuck in old patterns that aren't helping anymore? And you're ready to change! With a narrative counselling style, I first listen to your story; how did you manage before, what are your strengths, what do you value in life? What is important to you in a relationship/friendship and what do you like about yourself? I use Resource Therapy to help the injured part of you heal.

You’re the strong one. High-functioning, self-aware, always showing up for others — but quietly battling burnout, self-doubt, and anxious relationships. You crave boundaries, clarity, and deeper self-trust. You want to stop spiraling in your head and start feeling safe in your body and relationships. You're not broken — you're exhausted from surviving. You want to feel steady, empowered, and finally free of patterns that no longer serve you — in love, work, and within yourself.

From time to time, we all face challenges and experience change throughout different stages of our lives. But for many of us, sometimes it might be more difficult than usual to cope or find our way. Perhaps you are feeling lost because the life you currently lead is not what you had imagined it would be? Or it could be that you are facing an overwhelming situation, or 'stuck' in a relationship that creates major stress. You may have been struggling with anxiety, depression, loss or other significant life transitions for some time, and now need help. At Safe Place Counselling, you do not need to deal with life’s challenges alone.

On the outside, life probably looks stable. Good work, good relationships, a lot to be grateful for. But inside, things can feel heavy or hard to make sense of. Many of the people I work with describe anxiety, disconnection, or feeling stuck in old patterns that don’t shift, no matter how hard they try. Some are exploring Autism or ADHD, or noticing how past experiences still shape the present, and how they relate to others. Others are beginning to see that what they’ve been carrying is trauma. What they all have in common is a longing to feel safer, calmer, and more like them

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
