I am a LGBTQIA plus affirmative therapist and work across the adult population with issues related to depression, anxiety, self worth and relationship dynamics. I have an Indian heritage and speak fluent Hindi. Being from a South Asian background and a child of migrants puts me in a position to understand the relational difficulties you might be going through and how to navigate these situations.

Hi, I'm Vicki. I am a qualified Art Psychotherapist in England and Australia. I am passionate about art therapy and specialise in trauma informed art psychotherapy. This involves helping and educating clients on how to regulate their nervous system with art making, in a safe therapeutic relationship. This is particularly effective for clients with ptsd and anxiety disorders (select mutism, ocd). Client's goals are often to learn new ways of regulating their emotions and reduce anxiety and build coping skills. We can do this with art therapy, so they can be empowered to live the life they desire, with freedom from the past.

Don't expect to see a change if you don't make one. I enable positive change. My clients may have seen a therapist or coach before, but it didn't change anything for them. They then come to me. They want to make lasting positive change in their lives, but they need somebody to give them structured tools and support them in the growth process. Change can be good, but it is not easy. Typically, my clients come to me feeling that living on auto-pilot or that they have lost touch with who they are at their core. They desire more life satisfaction and are prepared to work for it. They want to thrive not just survive.

I completed my Masters of Clinical Psychology at the University of Melbourne March 2020, and am registered with AHPRA as a Clinical Psychologist. I love the challenge of formulating for each individual client, and adapting this formulation (and treatment plan) over time as one's presentation or circumstance changes. I am passionate about working alongside clients to help them improve their quality of life, and particularly in empowering clients in their ability to cope with psychosocial stressors. Change is hard; clients do not need to be 100% motivated 100% of the time; but they need to want to want to be motivated some of the time

I am passionate about amplifying voices and creating spaces for individuals to freely express themselves. This includes voices of people of colour, First Nations individuals, migrants, and other marginalised minority groups that experience greater systemic barriers. For some communities, there are expectations of how one should think and behave within their cultural context. However, this can often be misaligned with their true sense of self. Being stuck in between two cultural worlds can be challenging.

If you are already checking this, it means that a part of you is ready to be transformed, I´m here to assist you in that process. My most important objective is to provide you with a safe and professional space to go to the roots of your symptoms, not only the surface. In that way, changes being made are most likely to remain.

Women's Issues Counsellors

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realised.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
