I help people navigate emotional and physical distress by making meaningful connections between what they're feeling and what’s really going on beneath the surface. In a supportive, grounded space, you’ll learn to sit with discomfort, work through what’s holding you back, and move toward lasting wellbeing—and a deeper, more empowered version of yourself.

I am a clinical counsellor with 18 years experience and specializing in couples conflict and in anger management, particularly those facing criminal charges, domestic, violence or intervention orders, providing court approved certificates.
Over the last 20 years I have developed my own model of counseling called Cognitive Principle Therapy which is a 4th Wave CBT therapy which focuses on values, rather than behavour. The techniques reduce bad habits very quickly, including anger. The therapy is based on psycho-education, with specific tools provided each session.

This might include your relationship with yourself, your identity, and place in the world.
I work in a way that is sensitive and thoughtful toward very complex life experiences of ongoing grief, loss, or feeling stuck when life is feeling uncertain. Many of us benefit from a person to talk to, to consider our own needs or to work through priorities and how to bring change more smoothly and confidently into our life. You may want more time, freedom, to feel heard or to make sense of the 'right' next steps for you. ;You may want to feel you have work that is more meaningful, happier relationships, or to resolve current or past traumatic experiences. I assist people in a range of ways as they make sense of change.

Commonly, I have clients tell me in their first session that 'they have many issues and no one else has ever been able to help them before' - this is generally an indication that we will build a lasting relationship.
I understand that M-F, 9-5pm is not for everyone so I offer a range of afterhours and weekend appointment times. Whether our sessions be conducted face to face or via Zoom Video my aim is always to have you feel supported so that we can work together to get the best outcomes for you. This should be all about you and your needs.

My approach caters to clients with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship disturbances, self-esteem issues, the impact of abuse, trauma, grief and loss, addiction, and other presenting problems.
The essence of my therapy is in building solid, safe relationships collaboratively with my clients, catering to the unique needs of each person in a non-judgmental way. Rather than tell someone what they need, I prefer a merging of minds to make meaningful and sustainable differences. Together we explore resources to overcome adversity and suffering whilst learning to accept and adapt to the complicated facets of life where required. My therapeutic approach is also rooted in a deep exploration of early life experiences, with a focus on understanding and facilitating the healing of trauma or patterned behaviour.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
