Looking for something a little different to traditional talking therapy? Often it can be hard to find the words to express how we are feeling or what is going on in your life that is getting you down. As a Mental Health Social Worker I use my traditional counselling skills and incorporate my Sensorimotor Art Therapy skills to add deeper meaning and reflection to make sense of the world through art, creativity and play.

In over 20 years as a therapist, I have worked with a wide range of clients and couples with many and varied issues. I work in a way that is strongly client, and emotionally focused. I have worked with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, substance issues, food disorders, grief, child-hood trauma, uncertainty around sexuality and gender, around identity and self confidence/esteem. I work well with clients who are looking to change their lives and who are open to exploring their issues; to challenge their thinking and to examine what isn't working for them and to take practical steps to shift beyond where they are now.

Please Read - I am on annual leave from Sep 8th - Oct 3rd. The calendar will not have availability within these dates. You're welcome to leave an email or voicemail and I will reconnect with you the week beginning October 3rd. I aim to demystify the clinical fluff when it comes to nurturing mental wellbeing, while meeting each person exactly where they’re at. When working with people I ensure the space feels safe, grounded and nurturing as we move through each life experience. I love honouring each person's authenticity and empowering those I support.

I'll help you find a way through whatever is bothering you by teaching you a whole different way of relating to your problems that will be a total relief. The changes you make will be lasting, life-enhancing and uniquely yours. You may have never had therapy, or be like many of the people I work with and have seen lots of other therapists before, but nothing has really stuck. It could be a familiar old depression feeling creeping back in, you might be really unsure how you will get through this social isolation period without your eating disorder getting out of hand, whatever it is, I can help.

We often come to therapy when we are anticipating or experiencing change; endings and new beginnings. I use a mixture of talk and Art therapy to work with people through changes; in identity, relationships, sexuality, health, career and family; if it's a change you're in, or a change you're wanting or needing. I work with the LGBTQIA+ community and our allies, friends and family. Together we can explore the parts of you that come with endings and change; grief and loss, anger, anxiety and depression. In doing this, we can become curious and generate movement towards new-beginnings and new chapters.

Therapy can have profound benefits and can lead to lasting change, but it only works when you are ready, and feel trusting of your therapist. For my part, I seek to provide a warm, non-judgemental space for you to explore and experience whatever is most needed at the time—a supportive and curious approach that allows for rich and meaningful relational and inner-world development. If you have been feeling stuck in a cycle, overwhelmed, are experiencing grief or loss, want to make a change or cultivate your strengths, I will work collaboratively with you to enable your growth.

As a therapist, I understand the need for warmth and acceptance. This is the foundation of a therapeutic relationship where people can show up with aspects of themselves that are problematic and unhelpful without judgement. I can relate to very human uncomfortable and undesirable behaviors, feelings and beliefs about ourselves. Through consistent support, compassion and curiosity, positive change becomes possible.

Sometimes we don't know exactly what we need help with, but we know something needs to change. You might feel anxious or sad without an obvious explanation, have experienced trauma, a desire to improve your self-esteem, or get over a painful break-up. Using a collaborative and empathic therapeutic approach grounded in evidence-based practice, I support you to make meaning of the feelings and thoughts that contribute to psychological and emotional distress. We work together to find new, more adaptive ways of being that improve your quality of life, create positive coping habits, and break unhelpful relationship patterns.

Seeking therapy is never too early or too late in life. Most of us develop skepticism and may avoid therapy. In the majority of cases, however, you will find that through therapy you can improve your life and relationships, as well as control and comprehend your anxiety. You will be able to alter unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse and sexual validation. There is no requirement to return, but there will always be a genuine desire to assist you with your issues.

A solid therapeutic relationship can be a catalyst for meaningful change. I aim to provide you with safety through trust, deep empathy, validation, non-judgement & acceptance. There will be laughter, honesty and authenticity. I notice and highlight your values & strengths, which should be nurtured and empower you. I would like for you to not see yourself as a victim, or 'disabled', but as a tiger who has earned its stripes. I see complex clients, my niche is ADHD & its comorbidities eg ASC, disordered eating and chronic pain. Together we can work towards unmasking, silencing that inner critic that shames you and self-acceptance.

ADHD Counsellors
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

If you're looking for a Preston ADHD counsellor, these professionals provide ADHD therapy and counselling in Preston.
