I’m Dillon, a psychologist who helps people make sense of the deeper patterns driving their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. My work focuses on helping clients develop self-understanding, emotional flexibility, and lasting change — not just short-term symptom relief. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling anxious, disconnected, or worn down by trauma, addiction, or neurodivergent challenges. Over time, our work together aims to help them feel more grounded, self-aware, and confident in their ability to cope and make meaningful changes.

I am a clinical psychologist and have worked for the past decade exploring meaning in life, the balance between change and acceptance, the unconscious, and patterns leading us to want to destroy or hurt ourselves and each other. Who really knows anything about what we're doing here? In the psychology practice I offer knowing isn't as prized as wondering and exploring. I see people who experience stress, anxiety, loneliness, trauma, depression, relationship difficulties, loss, addiction, low self-confidence, ADHD, and a lack of direction/purpose

From time-to-time we all have issues going on in our lives that feel overwhelming, confusing and too hard to deal with on our own. At the same time, for various reasons, it often feels as if there is no one there we feel safe enough with whom we can share our burdens. Whether it's a messy divorce, the death of a loved one, a traumatic experience, an existential crisis about the meaning of life, or a difficult decision that has to be made - it can be hard to figure out what to do or who to turn to for guidance.

I am a Doctor of Clinical Psychology who trained in the UK and has worked in England, New Zealand and now Australia. My main interest is understanding the meaning behind an individual's suffering. My philosophy is that diagnoses act as a potential obstacle to truly understanding the reality of an individual's experience. Therefore, in practice, I try to refrain from medicalising someone's misery and instead be open to perceiving people's expressions of distress as often logical, rational, predictable and understandable reactions to some form of neglect, abuse, loss and/or trauma.

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. We all face challenges, emotional upsets, and moments of uncertainty. Most of the time, we manage to adapt and heal on our own. But sometimes, the pain lingers, and we find ourselves stuck, unsure of how to move forward. In these moments, having the right support can make all the difference. As a therapist, I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely. I listen not only to your words but also to the emotions beneath them, helping uncover insights that can lead to healing and change.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
