My name is Lorraine Marsh, and if you have found your way here, then maybe you are looking for a different way to live your life. Have you lost a sense of your authentic self? What dreams have you let go of? Maybe you have never been encouraged to want something just for yourself? What are your intrinsic values? Would you like to understand thought and relationship patterns that no longer serve you? How can you rediscover what you love and to learn new skills to thrive? When was the last time you thought about what you wanted and took action to get it?

I take a person-centered, holistic approach and focus on the delivery of Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness-Centred Somatic Psychotherapy (Hakomi).
Alongside EMDR and Hakomi, I integrate other therapies including Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS), Parts Work, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Integrative Treatment for Attachment Trauma. Through my many years working with trauma, I've developed a gentler, more relational form of EMDR called Vagus Nerve Reprocessing.

Drawing on somatic awareness, nervous system regulation, and strengths-based practices, I offer practical, gentle tools that help you understand your responses, soothe your system, and build resilience.
I work with people who feel weighed down by trauma, stress, or painful life experiences that leave them feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected — from themselves or from others. Many of my clients are navigating patterns that no longer serve them, struggling with emotional regulation, or finding it hard to feel grounded and present. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate space where you can be heard, understood, and supported at your own pace. Together, we explore how trauma and stress show up in your body and relationships, and how they shape your emotions, self-worth, and sense of safety.

Not currently accepting new clients. My approach can be summarised as warm yet direct. I do not focus on analysing problems or managing symptoms, rather I work hard to uncover and address the deeper issues that are at the core of your difficulties. This includes uncovering those patterns that operate largely outside of conscious awareness. I work this way because I believe that lasting change is difficult without first understanding the patterns that are shaping our experience.

I work from a nervous system perspective and incorporate somatic practices into my work.
My ideal clients are mid-life women who are navigating a season of significant change and beginning to notice that their usual ways of coping no longer feel sustainable. They may come to my practice feeling anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how to move through transitions such as perimenopause or menopause, relationship changes, caring for ageing parents, shifting family roles, career pressure, burnout, grief, or a deeper sense of “Who am I now?”

The work involves understanding what has been happening, identifying patterns in your thoughts, emotions and body responses, and building practical somatic tools you can use immediately.
You may look like you're holding it together. Inside, it's a different story. My clients carry a low hum of tension that never quite switches off. Or they brace for the moment someone finally gets tired of them, never fully letting their guard down. Or they live with a quieter difficulty: a persistent feeling something is fundamentally wrong with them that others can see and they cannot fix. Many have tried other approaches. Too distant, too clinical, too focused on symptoms without touching what is underneath. You don't need the right words. You need to arrive willing to look.

Ashley Ogilvie
Counsellor, PACFA
Edithvale, VIC 3196
Drawing from my trauma-informed toolbox, I blend techniques like EFT, IFS, ACT, DBT, CBT, expressive arts therapy, somatic approaches and Jungian principles.
I'm Ashley - a Scottish-born integrative psychotherapist and arts therapist based in Edithvale, Bayside. I specialise in neurodivergent adults, teens, and families - particularly those who've spent years feeling misunderstood, exhausted by masking, or let down by traditional approaches. If you've tried therapy before and it didn't quite fit - or you've just received an ADHD or AuDHD diagnosis and don't know what to do with it - you're in the right place. I work differently. Sessions can happen in the therapy room, walking along the beach, or through the arts - whatever helps you feel safe enough to actually show up.

Somatic Therapists
How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
