If you think things could be better, you're probably right. It's hard to ignore that voice inside us that's looking for the right person to help us take the first steps. For those working through challenges, including but not limited to: depression, anxiety, stress and anger management, relationship difficulties/divorce, major life transitions, trauma, abuse, grief and loss, illness and major injury, it helps to have someone who not only understands your situation, but has both the personal experience with what it takes to get to a place where 'better' is an option, combined with the professional expertise to get you there.

If you're an adolescent or woman feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in unresolved past experiences, you're not alone. You might be exhausted by the internal chaos, constantly battling big emotions, or struggling to silence that critical inner voice. You want to feel grounded, confident, and free from the pasts' grip. You yearn to understand your emotions better, to stop feeling like 'too much', or 'not enough', and to genuinely feel at peace within yourself, finally embracing all the parts that you, you.

Are you're the kind of person who overthinks breakfast choices but ignores your own needs. You're sick of anxiety hijacking your potential, tired of feeling "meh," and done with pretending you've got it all together. Maybe you're navigating a quarter-life crisis, burnout from adulting, or just craving a self-worth upgrade. I'm here for it all, and I believe true healing happens when therapy adapts to you, not the other way around.

So many people feel lonely and disconnected. This can have many causes - childhood trauma, bullying, there are numerous factors. This results in anxiety, depression, sometimes suicidal thoughts. I value people beginning to see their own self worth, to recover from anxiety, depression trauma, whatever has caused them problems. Wonderful to see people starting to cope better with life, to become fully alive and be able to have meaningful relationships. Whatever is causing you suffering doesn't need to continue, do the work and start to recover.

I’m a registered psychologist who works with adults experiencing a range of difficulties. I have a special interest in helping people living with the effects of trauma, eating disorders, and body image concerns, and this was the focus of my PhD. In my experience, these struggles often come with shame and self-criticism, and I aim to support people in gently working through these to work towards the life they deserve. I also regularly work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, stress, and burnout, and offer a collaborative space to explore what’s going on and what matters to you.

Becoming a parent, or hoping to become one, can be both exciting and overwhelming, and sometimes an experience of loss and disappointment. Even when there are happy moments, it’s normal to also feel uncertain, stretched, or like some things are out of your control. Many parents/parents-to-be, feel pressure to look like they have it all together, while privately struggling with sleep disruption, anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, relationship changes, or a sense of losing themselves.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
