Hello there! I work as an Integrative Psychotherapist, and absolutely love this process of helping fellow humans to heal and grow through whatever has become stuck or too-much to cope with alone. When clients have breakthroughs in these personal struggles it's very rewarding. I value being honest, collaborative, non-judgemental, and discerning in the therapeutic relationship. Clients often describe me as warm, open-minded, humorous, and caring.

Currently open for new referrals. I work from an understanding that many of life's concerns stem from our past experiences in relationships and the structural difficulties that are present in our society. This organizes the way I understand peoples experience and distress and how I seek to understand how we are in relationship, and what fixed patterns get in the way of living a more meaningful and enriching life. I work with warmth and curiosity to help develop a deeper understanding of your area of concern and better make sense of why particular patterns might be causing distress.

I am currently fully booked and unable to take on new patients. My psychotherapeutic practice opens a vital place where an individual's speech, and sometimes their silence, can be generated and heard. Matters that carry such urgency —sadness, despair, anguish, but also joy and pleasure— are understood within this approach as always profoundly individual, demanding to be met in their singularity. Together we work to allow new perspectives to emerge, new lives to be made.

You are here because you feel like you (or someone you know) may need therapy and are reading through profiles of strangers, scrolling through their videos and photos. It's a pretty common part of being on the internet nowadays, along with scrolling through memes and videos of food and cats. You may be looking for connection. Someone who speaks to you and may get you and your life story. I know what’s like, because I’ve been on that side of the screen going through that same process. Today may not be the day you choose to call or email, but you are scoping what’s there and most of it may sound pretty similar profile to profile.

Looking for something a little different to traditional talking therapy? Often it can be hard to find the words to express how we are feeling or what is going on in your life that is getting you down. As a Mental Health Social Worker I use my traditional counselling skills and incorporate my Sensorimotor Art Therapy skills to add deeper meaning and reflection to make sense of the world through art, creativity and play.

In over 20 years as a therapist, I have worked with a wide range of clients and couples with many and varied issues. I work in a way that is strongly client, and emotionally focused. I have worked with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, substance issues, food disorders, grief, child-hood trauma, uncertainty around sexuality and gender, around identity and self confidence/esteem. I work well with clients who are looking to change their lives and who are open to exploring their issues; to challenge their thinking and to examine what isn't working for them and to take practical steps to shift beyond where they are now.

Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
