I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with adults across a broad range of psychological difficulties and life challenges. I have a special interest in supporting individuals living with chronic pain, chronic illness, and the effects of trauma.
My approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful change often occurs through small, achievable steps that accumulate over time. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, I work collaboratively with clients to build lives that are rich in purpose, connection, and personal meaning.

Hi, my name is Sarah. My approach is grounded in Gestalt therapy, which is a relational, non-pathologising, collaborative and liberatory approach to healing. We are each 'storied' uniquely, and exist within intersections of identity, culture and systemic factors that shape how we interface life and make meaning of our experiences. Through a safe and trusted therapeutic relationship, we can begin to make these impacts visible, witnessed and workable. In session, I use dialogue, movement, creative tools and somatic enquiry to support you in fostering greater awareness, wholeness and authenticity.

My approach can be summarised as warm yet direct. I do not focus on analysing problems or managing symptoms, rather I work hard to uncover and address the deeper issues that are at the core of your difficulties. This includes uncovering those patterns that operate largely outside of conscious awareness. I work this way because I believe that lasting change is difficult without first understanding the patterns that are shaping our experience.

Many people find themselves troubled by long-standing symptoms, or a sense of feeling held back by something. Often, for a range of different reasons, there have been experiences that have not been able to be spoken, and therefore silence persists when it comes to deeper longings or deciding life direction. I aim to provide a space where people have the opportunity to speak freely and be heard in their particularity; as an individual and not a label or category. I help people find creative responses to the impasses that can arise in many facets of life.

I offer psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
My practice provides a space where you can speak freely and without censorship to someone who will listen carefully to both the conscious and unconscious resonances of your speech. It offers a rare opportunity to seek a real understanding of the things you find most difficult and that cause you to suffer, but also those that are most important to you.

You may look like you're coping on the outside while feeling stuck in patterns you don't understand. I work with adults who grew up feeling unseen, emotionally unsupported, criticised, controlled or responsible for others' needs, and who now struggle with self-worth, boundaries, relationships, anxiety or recurring patterns. I also support individuals and couples through relationship difficulties, including relationship breakdown, and major life transitions such as pregnancy and parenthood – profound periods when old wounds can come into sharper focus.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
