I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Therapist with over 30 years experience working with individuals, couples and families. I treat a wide range of mental health issues including anxierty, depression and attachment injury I offer a mix of practical strategies (such as ACT, CBT and mnidfulness) and deeper exploration of your feelings and experiences. I am particularly interested in the emotions and beliefs we hold that get us stuck in problematic and repetitive patterns of relating. By becoming aware of these patterns, we can step out of distress and conflict and rebuild connection to ourself and significant others.

Life can be so tough, at times: Perhaps you don’t feel good about 'you', you struggle with life feeling relentlessly stressful, expensive, and anxiety-provoking, your relationship is in trouble, work is overwhelming and unsatisfying, your friendships feel insecure, you grieve for the decline or death of a close other (or beloved pet), you are diagnosed with a fear-evoking illness, your mental health is out of kilter and you don't know how to get back on track, or you may be feeling a 'deep down' loss of meaning and purpose in an increasingly unstable, uncertain world. Or something else; we all have a story. Therapy can really help.

My ideal clients are individuals and couples who feel emotionally disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck in repeating patterns. They may be healing from trauma, navigating cross-cultural relationships, or struggling with anxiety, burnout, or low self-worth. Many long for deeper connection, calm, and authenticity. Finding a therapist who can deeply attune to you and creatively integrate approaches that truly align with your needs can be really hard. It often takes energy from every part of your life- especially when you’re already running on empty. I want to reassure you that I understand, both professionally and personally, just how crucial this stage is. That’s why I’ve made it a priority to ensure this part of the process feels as welcoming and informative as possible.

You’ve tried everything- talk therapy, self-help, even deep inner work-but something is still holding you back. Trauma, repeating relationship dynamics or behaviours can keep us stuck in patterns that feel impossible to break. I help clients who are ready for a different approach-one that gets to the root of the issue. By working somatically and systemically we uncover hidden dynamics that may be keeping you trapped. Together, we’ll create a path to release old patterns, and integrate practical tools for lasting change so you can finally move forward with clarity, freedom, and ease. Your past doesn't need to govern your future.

I provide counselling support and guidance for adults experiencing mental health challenges, and those who have been diagnosed and newly diagnosed, with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Regarding ADHD, the impacts can be huge, upsetting and challenging in both personal and work life, with planning, organising, goal setting and focussing. Thus, gaining knowledge and understanding brings about awareness of how neurodivergent brains work and the need for both emotional and practical support being very important. It is all about how to work with your ADHD diagnosis and not against it.

Attachment-based Counsellors

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioural Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
