As a qualified psychotherapist, I support adults and young people experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, life-transitions, family difficulties. I offer a neurodiversity-affirming, gentle, holistic approach, using a Process Work awareness model, walking alongside clients as they discover and integrate less known aspects of the self. Together we move toward re-connection with the self and improved relationships with others, accessing each individual's own inner wisdom and healing from within.

Hello! My name is Charlotte and I created Being Human Psychology to provide a space for each individual to feel heard, known and seen while exploring all the messy, beautiful and imperfect parts of being a human. I work from a space of curiosity, fostering an environment where laughter and tears can coexist. In particular I enjoy working with adult clients to address past hurts and childhood issues that contribute to long term difficulties, such as PTSD/CPTSD. As well as those experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, relationship difficulties and life transitions.

My name is Lorraine Marsh, and if you have found your way here, then maybe you are looking for a different way to live your life. Have you lost a sense of your authentic self? What dreams have you let go of? Maybe you have never been encouraged to want something just for yourself? What are your intrinsic values? Would you like to understand thought and relationship patterns that no longer serve you? How can you rediscover what you love and to learn new skills to thrive? When was the last time you thought about what you wanted and took action to get it?

I am a specialist Counsellor with 12+ years' experience supporting women in community and therapeutic settings. Women are incredible connectors that give so much of themselves to workplaces, families and community. Sometimes this can result in feeling disconnected from themselves. Women also experience relationship breakdowns, parenting challenges, loss, abuse and traumatic experiences. These can really rock the foundation of who we are. I can help you make sense of what has happened and how to move forward with who you are becoming and what you want for your life.

If you find yourself stuck in unresolved anger, resentment or prolonged grief that is impeding your ability to enjoy life now, I can help you release it. I honestly believe we should be able to enjoy our lives and grow from the challenges we face. When you get stuck there instead I can help you change that challenge into an opportunity for transformation. I also provide assistance for women at transitional stages of life - especially approaching retirement or in early retirement. I can also assist with emotional distress as a result of overwhelm, inner conflict, over-reaction, worry or overeating.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
