Hi, I'm Chris, I am relationship therapist with a special interest in working with women, men and couples to improve their wellbeing and relationships. Being a mother, partner and professional I know what it's like to feel the tension between balancing work, parenting and being a partner. After giving everything to work, children and partner we often forget about nourishing and making time for ourselves. My clients tell me that feel like they have lost a little part of themselves, are concerned about the loss of connection in their relationships. I am passionate about helping reconnect with themselves and rebuild their relationship.

I work with individuals battling with grief and loss. Losses occur for us all of the time and sometimes, they hit us so hard we need a little extra support. We may experience loss of relationships, transitionary times for our children starting school or leaving home, a passing of a family member or breakdowns in relationships. Some of these losses feel as though we aren't allowed to grieve and our practice is a safe space to do so. We acknowledge the busy-ness that remains even when loss occurs and have sessions available after hours and on weekends.

Melissa works with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, trauma, life transitions and coping with change, work-place stress and relationship issues. She offers short and longer-term therapy to clients from adolescence (13+) to adulthood. Melissa recognises that taking the leap and making an appointment to see a psychologist can be very daunting. People are often unsure whether counselling is right thing for them. To alleviate this distress, she will contact you and discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have prior to your session.

I have a passion for working with couples, people looking to overcome trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, anger and grief. Do you feel overwhelmed or are you finding it difficult to cope? Part of being human and living life, means that there are times when we need extra support, but it isn't always easy to reach out. Other times it's hard to reach out because we've experienced things so painful and traumatic that it feels like you will never be understood. This often leaves us feeling unworthy, not good enough and unsafe and burdened with a pain that can never be shared.

Do you sometimes feel lonely within your relationship with your spouse/ partner? Do you feel pressured and exhausted to always agree with your partner just to fit in, having no space to express your words honestly? Many times, you might even feel like running away from that relationship. I would just like to say that you’re not alone if you do. What if I told you that you can create a more secure, respectful, compassionate, thoughtful, and empathic relationship with your partner/ spouse but without having to feel exhausted and disempowered every single day?

You deserve to live your best life. A life free to embrace who you are on the inside and the confidence to share your truth with others. I can promise that I am a real person who can sit with the painful experiences you bring and connect with you in an honest way that sometimes invites humour. Therapy is not always about painful experiences but human connection. I want to help you live your best life by finding solutions and making the changes for yourself or for your family. I understand that it can be daunting making the first contact. I encourage you to take that step, to reach out and see how I can help.

A solid therapeutic relationship can be a catalyst for meaningful change. I aim to provide you with safety through trust, deep empathy, validation, non-judgement & acceptance. There will be laughter, honesty and authenticity. I notice and highlight your values & strengths, which should be nurtured and empower you. I would like for you to not see yourself as a victim, or 'disabled', but as a tiger who has earned its stripes. I see complex clients, my niche is ADHD & its comorbidities eg ASC, disordered eating and chronic pain. Together we can work towards unmasking, silencing that inner critic that shames you and self-acceptance.

In 1997 at RCH I set up groups for socially isolated teens with ASD, anxiety, shyness, bullying, sensory deficits, cognitive & receptive language deficits & so on. Teens say that they enjoy the "judgement free space", the belonging. Their confidence grows in the groups. Parents say that they are keen and organised to come to the groups, it is the highlight of their week. They relax. I delved into the needs of socially isolated teens through my Psychodrama thesis called "Friends Are The Best Medicine". I also run Tuning Into Kids/Teens groups for parents & Family Therapy. Telehealth is available for kids/teens/parent/families!
