Choosing a psychologist is a big decision, and I suspect you've thought about this for a while. You know that therapy is an investment in yourself, and you don't make investments without doing your research. You are looking for someone you feel safe and comfortable sharing your most difficult thoughts and feelings with. You want someone to listen carefully, to respect you and your experience and to be invested in your goals providing support that is specifically tailored to who you are (otherwise you'd just be buying a self-help book). That's what you deserve!

You are here because you feel like you (or someone you know) may need therapy and are reading through profiles of strangers, scrolling through their videos and photos. It's a pretty common part of being on the internet nowadays, along with scrolling through memes and videos of food and cats. You may be looking for connection. Someone who speaks to you and may get you and your life story. I know what’s like, because I’ve been on that side of the screen going through that same process. Today may not be the day you choose to call or email, but you are scoping what’s there and most of it may sound pretty similar profile to profile.

Many people face feelings of stress, anxiety, or low mood, alongside the challenges that life can bring. Issues such as grief, trauma, questions of identity, career uncertainty, or navigating life transitions and ageing can feel isolating or difficult to manage alone. Often, there is a desire for relief—a greater sense of stability, confidence, and peace—and a need for a supportive, understanding space where it is possible to feel heard and respected while moving forward at a comfortable pace.

Becoming a parent, or hoping to become one, can be both exciting and overwhelming, and sometimes an experience of loss and disappointment. Even when there are happy moments, it’s normal to also feel uncertain, stretched, or like some things are out of your control. Many parents/parents-to-be, feel pressure to look like they have it all together, while privately struggling with sleep disruption, anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, relationship changes, or a sense of losing themselves.

Don't expect to see a change if you don't make one. I enable positive change. My clients may have seen a therapist or coach before, but it didn't change anything for them. They then come to me. They want to make lasting positive change in their lives, but they need somebody to give them structured tools and support them in the growth process. Change can be good, but it is not easy. Typically, my clients come to me feeling that living on auto-pilot or that they have lost touch with who they are at their core. They desire more life satisfaction and are prepared to work for it. They want to thrive not just survive.

Do you find yourself overthinking, feeling guilty when you try to set boundaries, or caught in repeating patterns that leave you feeling drained and burnt out? I work with young women who are highly self-aware, yet still find it hard to break out of these cycles. It can feel confusing and frustrating, like insight alone isn’t enough to create change. I offer a warm, and safe space, where we can gently explore what’s beneath this and help you feel more grounded, clear, and able to show up in your life with more confidence and internal trust.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
